Math Journals

Picture
Math Journals are divided into 3 parts.

1st Part:  Flip Charts.  Students will make a Flip Chart for each unit.  The organizer will hold important information about each concept and completely worked out examples.  The Flip Charts can often be used on test given prior approval.  It is important to take good notes so you can refer back to them when we  review for cumulative tests, semester tests, and end-of-the-year
                                        exams.

2nd Part:  Critical Vocabulary .  Critical Vocabulary is posted on the
bulletin board along with the I CAN statements (goals) for each unit.  The
words stay on the wall and are discussed as the unit is being taught.  Copy the
words in the journal.  Include the definition, page  where the definition was
found, and an illustration or completely worked out example.  To emphasize
the vocabulary word,  use arrows, color, and labeling in your illustration.  If
you use the Internet for the definition, use a math dictionary.

3rd Part:  POD- Problem of the Day.  Students will review previously taught
concepts to "brush-up" on their math skills and review for the KPREP
(formerly CATS test).  Quizzes will be administered periodically to check for
                                        mastery.
